The DOST scholarship is one of the most well-known scholarships in the Philippines. The status and advantages of the scholarship attract a large number of Filipino students. It’s no surprise that thousands of applications compete for the scholarship’s limited number of spots each year.

At a Quick look: Recent DOST Scholarship Updates.

  • The application date for the 2022 DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship has been extended till January 31, 2022,
  • Aspiring Senior High School students can now apply for the 2022 DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship beginning October 22, 2021. The DOST E-Scholarship System will be used for application and documentation submission. The deadline for applications is November 30, 2021. The results of the 2022 DOST Scholarship will be released on the DOST’s official website in May 2022. All qualifiers will also receive an email with a Notice of Award.
  • The online applications for the 2021 DOST Junior Level Science Scholarships (JLSS) are now open until September 30, 2021. The application and documentary required deadline is November 30, 2021. Visit the DOST JLSS online portal for additional information on the 2021 DOST JLSS.

What Are the DOST Scholarship Programs?

Scholarships from the DOST-SEI (Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute) support qualified college and graduate students in pursuing careers in science and technology.

If you are a senior high school graduate, you may be eligible for one of the following DOST-SEI Science and Technology Undergraduate Scholarships:

1. RA 7687, also known as the “Science and Technology Act of 1994.”

This undergraduate scholarship program is available to deserving but economically weaker students who want to study in one of the priority subjects of science, mathematics, or engineering.
To be eligible for this scholarship, your family’s annual gross income must not exceed the scholarship’s cut-off values.

2. Merit Scholarship Program of the DOST-SEI.

Don’t give up hope if your family’s annual income exceeds the poverty line.

You can still apply for the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program if you have a strong aptitude in science and mathematics and want to study in a DOST priority field.

Who Is Eligible to Apply for a DOST Scholarship?

1. The “Science and Technology Act of 1994,” or R.A. 7687.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Natural born Filipino citizen
  • From a family whose socio-economic level must meet the scholarship’s requirements, which are based on your family’s annual income, properties, parent’s employment status, and other factors
  • A graduating STEM senior high school student OR a member of the top 5% of the graduating non-STEM senior high school class
  • In good health and with a good moral character
  • DOST-SEI exam taker for the first time
  • A qualifier of the S&T scholarship examination and a resident of a municipality as certified by the barangay.

2. Merit Scholarship Program of the DOST-SEI.

The requirements for the Merit Scholarship are almost the same as the qualifications for the previous type of scholarship, except for the second qualification. In other words, your socioeconomic situation will not be taken into account under this program.

Where Can a DOST Scholar Study? (List of Schools Awarded DOST Scholarships)

You may have confirmed that you match the requirements and that your preferred course is covered by the DOST Scholarship. However, you must also consider the university where you will be studying because the scholarship does not recognize all universities.

  1. State Universities and Colleges
  2. CHED Centers of Excellence or Centers of Development or 
  3. Institutions with FAAP Level III Accreditation.

But what if your selected course isn’t on the list? Even if you qualify for the scholarship, you will not be able to take advantage of the benefits if you choose a non-priority program.

What Are the DOST Scholarship Program’s Advantages?

Most students apply for this scholarship to help with the financial burden of attending college. Indeed, DOST provides the following advantages to their scholars:

  1. Tuition Fees: Php 40, 000 per year (Only for those who will enroll in private Higher Education Institutions)
  2. Book Allowance: Php 10,000 per academic year
  3. Monthly Living Allowance: Php 7,000
  4. Thesis Allowance: Php 10,000
  5. Transportation Allowance: 1 economy-class round trip fare (for those studying outside home province)
  6. PE/MS Uniform Allowance: Php 1,000
  7. Graduation Allowance: Php 1,000

If your curriculum requires summer classes, the DOST scholarship will additionally provide the following benefits:

  • Tuition and Other School Fees: Php 1,500
  • Book Allowance: Php 500
  • Monthly Living Allowance: Php 7,000

How to Apply for a DOST Scholarship.

You have two options for applying: manual application or online application.

Option 1: Apply manually.

UPDATE: Due to the current state of our health and quarantine restrictions, DOST encourages manual applications for the 2022 DOST Scholarship Program unless absolutely essential. As a result, candidates must submit their documentary requirements through the DOST Online Application Portal.

1. Obtain a form of application.

For NCR applicants, an application form is available at the Science Education Institute (SEI), 2nd level, Science Heritage Bldg. DOST Compound, General Santos Avenue, Bicutan, Taguig City.

In the meantime, candidates from other regions can get one through any DOST Regional Office or Provincial Science and Technology Center.

Send the completed form.

  • Submit it to the Science Education Institute or the DOST Regional Office/Provincial Science and Technology Center nearest to you.

Wait for your test permission to arrive.

  • The test permit will be mailed to you or the administrator of your school. If you have not received the test permit within a week before the exam date, you may enquire at the DOST Regional Office or check the nearest designated test centre a day before the exam.

Option 2: Submit an online application.

Once you have completed all of the documentary requirements and know all of the facts indicated above (e.g., father’s annual gross income, mother’s annual gross income, etc.), you are ready to take the first step toward becoming a DOST scholar.

Here’s how you apply online for the DOST scholarship:

1. Use the DOST-SEI Undergraduate E-Scholarships Application System to apply.

2. Sign up with a valid email address.

You must also submit your personal information (your name and birthdate) as well as your email address. Expect to get a verification message to the email address you provided.

3. Click on the link in the email notification that was sent to you.

This link will take you to the Eligibility Module. Please keep in mind that if you are disqualified for the scholarship, you may receive a disqualification notice.

  1. Fill in the blanks in the following modules with the necessary information.

To continue with the application process, you must submit the following information:

  • Personal information and contact information
  • Information about a Family
  • Contribution of funds
  • Questionnaire for Household Information
  • 5th grade and school Documentation required should be uploaded.

Please keep in mind that the E-scholarship application system only accepts the following file types:.jpeg,.png,.bmp, and.pdf.

Click the Upload button once you’ve selected the correct and complete files.

  1. To finish the application, click the Submit button.

Before proceeding, ensure that you have verified the accuracy of the documents and information you have provided. You can no longer make modifications or revisions to your application once it has been submitted.

In addition, you will receive an email confirming receipt of your application.

Keep in mind that the announcement of scholarship qualifiers will be made available on the DOST-SEI website around May 2022.

Additional Details for the DOST Scholarship Application for 2022:

  1. If the name of the school you attended from Grade 9 to Grade 12 is not available in the E-scholarship system, you must submit a request to a DOST staff member in your school region. The following information must be included in the request:
  • Scholarship Program: Undergraduate
  • Complete the school’s name
  • Complete the school’s address
  • Name of the School Registrar
  • The school’s contact information includes a landline and a mobile phone number, as well as an email address.
