Recently, the Philippine Space Agency announced the opening of its AD ASTRA Scholarship – Local Graduate Scholarships program for the current school year.

PhilSA AD ASTRA Scholarship

The PhilSA AD ASTRA Scholarship is a financial assistance program initiated by the Philippine Space Agency to support the education of deserving students in the fields related to Space and Technology. The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) is the government agency responsible for all national issues and activities related to space S&T applications in the Philippines.

PhilSA is now calling in applications from all interested and eligible students to apply for its Advanced Degrees for Accelerating Strategic Space R&D and Applications (AD ASTRA) Scholarship – Local Graduate Scholarships program for the first semester intake (August to September 2025)

Types of Scholarship

There are three types of scholarships given under PhilSA AD ASTRA Scholarship program for the fields relevant to the agency’s Key Development Areas and they are as follows:

  • Full Scholarships
  • Partial / Lateral Scholarship
  • Sandwich Scholarship program

These scholarships are available for students pursuing Masters and Doctorate programs.

Who can apply for Scholarship

The PhilSA AD ASTRA Scholarship program is open to apply for students who have completed their Bachelor’s degree, and are aiming to pursue research or a Master’s or Doctoral degree in fields related to Space Science, Technology, and Applications (SSTA), including space law, diplomacy, industry, and economics, in local or international higher educational institutions (HEIs)

PhilSA AD ASTRA Scholarship Benefits

Following is the list of scholarship benefits a scholar will receive under this program:

For Masters

  • Tuition and other school fees – Actual
  • Stipend (accommodation, meals, incidental expenses)
    • Local – Php 27,500/monthly,
    • Foreign – Based on Actual cost of living in place of study, including health insurance
  • Book Allowance – Php 22,000/year
  • Technological Support
    • Php 50,000/per laptop (maximum) and
    • Php 1,000 monthly internet connection
  • Round-Trip Transportation Allowance – Actual (on reimbursement basis)
  • Pre-departure Allowance – Actual (on reimbursement basis)
  • Thesis / Dissertation / Internship Allowance (if applicable) – Php 66,000
  • Research Grant (if applicable) – Php 125,400 (maximum)
  • Research Dissemination Grant (if applicable) – Php 82,500 (subject to liquidation)
  • Mentor’s Fee (if applicable) – Php 39,600
  • Relocation Allowance
  • Disability Support
  • Extra Academic Activities
  • Mentoring / Support Program
  • Membership in PhilSA Scholars Group

For Doctorate

  • Tuition and other school fees – Actual
  • Stipend (accommodation, meals, incidental expenses)
    • Local – Php 36,000/monthly,
    • Foreign – Based on Actual cost of living in place of study, including health insurance
  • Book Allowance – Php 22,000/year
  • Technological Support
    • Php 50,000/per laptop (maximum) and
    • Php 1,000 monthly internet connection
  • Round-Trip Transportation Allowance – Actual (on reimbursement basis)
  • Pre-departure Allowance – Actual (on reimbursement basis)
  • Thesis / Dissertation / Internship Allowance (if applicable) – Php 110,000
  • Research Grant (if applicable) – Php 278,300 (maximum)
  • Research Dissemination Grant (if applicable) – Php 165,000 (subject to liquidation)
  • Mentor’s Fee (if applicable) – Php 79,200
  • Relocation Allowance

Spacecraft systems development, engineering, and robotics

  • Satellite development and operation,
  • Space systems,
  • Spacecraft design and analysis,

  • Internet of robotic things (IoRT),

  • Materials science and engineering particularly materials in the space environment,
  • Materials for the space environment, and space experimental hardware for materials investigation;

Eligibility Criteria for Scholarship

To be eligible to apply for PhilSA AD ASTRA Scholarships program, a candidate must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. The candidate must be a Filipino citizen.
  2. He or She must be in good health.
  3. Must not be more than 45 years old at the time of application for Masters and Doctorate Scholarships, and not more than 50 years old for stand-alone sandwich programs.
  4. Must be of good moral character, as attested by two (2) character references.
  5. The Student must have a relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree.
  6. Must have no pending administrative/criminal case.
  7. Must have no pending service obligation from any previous scholarship programs unless there is a clearance or consent from the previous granting institution allowing the postponement of return service obligation and indicating that monitoring of the previous service obligation will not be transferred to PhilSA.
  8. He or She must have a research/thesis/dissertation plan in line with the Key Development Areas of PhilSA.
  9. Must have passed the admission requirements of any CHED-recognized Higher Educational Institution (HEI) (for local scholarship applicants).
  10. Must have passed the internal scholarship process of his/her Department/Agency (for government employees).
  11. The applicant must have been accepted to their host institution.

    7. Certified True Copy of Grades / Transcript of Records
    8. Certified True Copy of Diploma / Certificate of Graduation
    9. Proof of acceptance to the University or host institution
  • For applicants with previous scholarships with service obligations
    • Certificate of No Pending Service Obligation or Certificate of Deferment of Return Service
  • For applicants under regular employment government agencies
    • Certificate of No Pending Administrative Case
    • Endorsement letter from Head of Agency

Scholarship Application Deadline

Applications for the PhilSA AD ASTRA Scholarship program are accepted throughout the year with the following deadlines:

Local Graduate Scholarships

  • For 1st Semester – August to September intake of the current year – Deadline date is June 15
  • For 2nd Semester – January to February intake of the following year – Deadline date is October 15

Stand-alone Sandwich Program

  • For Stand-alone Sandwich Program, Deadline date is March 30

Foreign Graduate Scholarships

  • For August to December intake of the current year – Deadline date is March 30
  • For January to July intake of the following year – Deadline date is August 30
