What is UPCAT?
UPCAT is the University of the Philippines Admission Test. UP has had to limit freshmen enrollment slots to each campus and its many degree programs in order to maintain its high educational standards while using its limited resources.
The UP College Admission Test is divided into four sections:
- Language proficiency,
- Science,
- Mathematics, and
- Reading comprehension.
To qualify for UP Entrance Exam, standardized results on these subtests are coupled with a weighted average of final grades from the first three years of high school.
- There is no minimum high school average grade requirement for taking the UPCAT.
- The UPCAT can be taken only once.

UPCAT 2024 Announcement
- The University of the Philippines College Admission Test application period for the current year will start in the first week of March 2023, with online portal Form 1. (Applicants Personal Data).
- The university also announced that in September, the Office of Admissions will request formal grades from candidates’ specific schools so that they can be validated.
- Students in grade 11 who will graduate from senior high school at the end of the 2023-2024 academic year are eligible to apply.
The UP College Admission Test will be conducted at more than 100 test locations around the country, according to the university.
“All applications must be submitted online, and applicants must encode their grades for Grades 8, 9, 10, and 11 on the UPCAT 2024 online portal,” according to the university’s announcement.
“While applicants may be in Grade 11 at the time of application, exam takers will encode their grades online only in September 2023, when Grade 11 grades are final and complete,” the post added.
Benefits of the UP Oblation Scholarship
Furthermore, the top 50 UPCAT 2024 qualifiers will be admitted to the University of the Philippines in the first semester of the academic year 2024-2025, with free tuition, incidental and laboratory fees, a semester book subsidy, and a monthly incentive and transportation allowance.
Since 1991, the UP Oblation Scholarship has been granted to the top fifty UPCAT qualifiers.
The Scholarship includes the following benefits:
- Free Tuition fees,
- Monthly Incentives,
- Miscellaneous expenses,
- Laboratory fees,
- A Semestral book subsidy, and
- Transportation allowance
As long as they maintain the required grade point average, recipients may continue to earn the UP Oblation Scholarship for the regular period of time required to complete their chosen degree program. Until now, this grant only covers the first four years of the accelerated medical curriculum (INTARMED).
According to the UP website, recipients may receive the benefits for the standard period of time required to complete their chosen degree program, as long as they maintain the required grade point average.
