Ayala Foundation is starting a new grant initiative to help young women from underprivileged families pursue higher education in partnership with education startup U-GO Scholar Grant.
The Philippines will be the seventh nation where U-Go will do operate. The California-based nonprofit founded by Room to Read founder John Wood is also in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Vietnam
The Ayala Foundation will be in charge of managing every part of the program’s execution, including the review of applications, scholar monitoring, and interviews.

The issue of gender equality in education is about empowering women as much as it is about building the most capable economy possible for the Philippines to ensure our collective progress as a nation. “It’s exciting to have the opportunity to contribute to this possibility through U-Go Philippines,” said Zobel de Ayala.
BPI Senior Vice President of Consumer Bank Marketing and Platforms Mariana Zobel de Ayala has joined the U-Go Global Board of Directors and will manage expansion efforts.

What is the U-GO Scholar Grant Program?
The program hopes to provide scholarships to 75-100 students in the initial class, and to expand to at least 1,000 recipients in the medium term.
The U-Go scholar grant program provides financial assistance to high-achieving, motivated Filipina students enrolled in public universities.
Who is eligible to apply for the program?
It is open to college applicants enrolled in PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES. Scholarship assistance will begin in January 2023, just in time for the second semester.
What are the requirements?
- Demonstrate Financial need
- Be a community model of integrity
- Aspire to bring positive change to Society
- Desire to excel, have a Minimum of GPA 85%
- Be an active member of the community without any disciplinary or administrative cases

What are the benefits?
Each scholar will be awarded Php 40,000, which will renew annually as long as she maintains good academic results.
