Taiwan Foreign English Teacher Program is hiring for English Teachers and Teaching Assistants (TFETP)
The Taiwan Foreign English Teacher Program (TFETP) was launched by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to recruit foreign English teachers and teaching assistants in order to expand the number of opportunities for Taiwanese students to learn English in schools all over the country. Applications are now being accepted for the academic year 2023–2024.

Job Description: Foreign English Teacher
Foreign English Teachers are expected to collaborate with Taiwanese teachers to improve the quality of English curriculum, teaching, and assessment in order to strengthen English professional standards, provide students with a positive and immersive English learning environment, and improve students’ overall English abilities. The following are the main responsibilities of international English teachers:
- Work hours are 5 days a week, 8 hours a day.
- Conduct co-teaching with Taiwanese teachers up to 20 periods a week.
- Provide a positive English learning environment for students by taking part in various school activities, exhibitions, performances, and projects. Create a rich immersive English learning environment via diverse approaches to enhance student’s overall English ability, learning interests, and confidence.
- Participate in English teaching meetings, professional development activities, extracurricular activities, competitions, exhibitions, performances, and other related projects.
- Prepare lessons with colleagues or independently, including writing lesson plans, preparing teaching materials, grading assignments, and assessing evaluations.
- Accept assignments from the school to participate in English teaching professional development activities, competitions, exhibitions, performances, and other related affairs organized by the government.

Job Description: Foreign English Teaching Assistant
Foreign English teaching assistants work with Taiwanese teachers to create a positive, diverse, and immersive English learning environment that encourages students to be proactive in their English study, hence improving overall English ability. The following are the main responsibilities of foreign English teaching assistants:
- Service hours are 5 days a week, 8 hours a day.
- Assist Taiwanese teachers during class up to 20 periods a week.
- Assist in various school activities, presentations, exhibitions, performances, and projects. Create a rich immersive English learning environment via diverse approaches to enhance student’s overall English ability, learning interests, and confidence.
- Participate in English teaching meetings, professional development activities, extracurricular activities, competitions, exhibitions, performances, and other related projects.
- Prepare lessons with colleagues or independently, including writing lesson plans, preparing teaching materials, grading assignments, and assessing evaluations.

What is the monthly salary?
- Foreign English Teacher Monthly Salary (Depending on teaching experience)
- Holders of a bachelor’s degree: NT$ 65,230- 85,380: Php 119,371- 156,245.
- Holders of a master’s degree: NT$ 72,760- 94,980: Php 133,151- 173,813.
- Holders of a doctoral degree: NT$ 75,950- 100,010: Php 138,989- 183,018.
Note: A teacher’s compensation is set by his or her greatest level of education and teaching experience (service length). Teaching experience can only be gained from a domestic or international public junior high, high school, or elementary school, or from a lawfully registered domestic private junior high, high school, or primary school. Also, experiences prior to obtaining a teaching certificate, part-time teaching, intern teaching, service with less than one year of teaching experience, or as a headmaster/headmistress/principal will not be accepted.
Benefits:
Flight Reimbursement
- The maximum subsidy for the single/return trips of flight tickets shall be NT$40,000 (Php 73,200) each trip based on the actual amount spent.
* Please note that the airfare reimbursement is subject to the employment contract with your designated school. For more details, please confirm with your designated school after receiving school placement.
Housing Allowance
- The contract employer should offer a housing allowance if accommodations cannot be provided. In general, an individual is provided with a housing allowance of NT$5,000 (Php 9,150) per month while a family is provided with NT$10,000 (Php 18,300) per month.
Exception: If your contract employer provides your housing or you live on your own-acquired property, the allowance is not applicable. Only one of you can claim the housing allowance if you and your domestic partner are both employed by the same English teaching program. The maximum housing allowance is NT$10,000.
Performance Bonus
- Teachers who have worked for a school year and received an A in yearly performance are generally given an extra month’s salary as a bonus; teachers who have worked for a school year and received a B are typically given an extra 1/2 month’s pay as a bonus.
Overtime Pay
- For elementary school, each period is NT$400 (Php 732); for junior high school, each period is NT$450 (824).
Health Insurance and Labor Insurance
- Health insurance and labor insurance are provided.
Foreign English Teaching Assistant Monthly Salary
- The program provides a teaching assistant with a monthly salary of NT$48,000 (Php 87,840).
Benefits:
Flight Reimbursement
- The maximum amount of subsidy for the single/return trips of flight tickets shall be NT$40,000 (Php 73,200) each trip based on actual amount spent.
Note: Please keep in mind that the reimbursement for airfare is dependent on your employment contract with your specified institution. Please confirm with your selected school after getting school placement for more details.
Housing Allowance
- The contract school should offer a housing allowance if accommodations cannot be provided. The housing allowance should be reimbursed on an actual expense basis and capped at NT$26,000 (Php 47,580) for each school year.
* Exception: If your contract employer provides your housing or you live on your own-acquired property, the allowance is not applicable.
Reimbursement for Taking Certificate Class
- The program offers at a maximum of NT$5,000 (Php 9,150) per month for assistants to take TESOL, TEFL or CELTA classes.
Transportation Allowance
The program offers a transportation allowance. The transportation allowance should be reimbursed on an actual expense basis and capped at NT$3,000 (Php 5,490) for each school year.
Health Insurance and Group Accident
- Insurance/Labor Insurance
Health insurance and group accident insurance/labor insurance are provided.
